How we got this

  1. Whole years: the last birthday was January 1, 2026, so 26 years
  2. Whole months since then: 9 months, up to October 1, 2026
  3. Days from October 1, 2026 to October 16, 2026: 15 days
  4. Days since birth: January 1, 2000 to October 16, 2026 is 9,785 days, or 1,397 weeks and 6 days

How age is counted

Age in years is the number of birthdays you’ve had. The months and days after that come from counting whole months from your last birthday, then the days since the most recent “month birthday”. Because months have different lengths, “6 months and 3 days” isn’t a fixed number of days; it’s what you’d count on a calendar.

The totals are exact counts: the number of days between your date of birth and the “Age on” date, the same in weeks plus leftover days, and the number of whole months. A 30-year-old has been alive for roughly 10,957 days, depending on how many leap days fell in between.

Questions

How is exact age calculated?

By counting whole calendar months from the date of birth to today, which gives the years and months, and then the days left over. Someone born on May 15, 1990 is 36 years, 5 months and 0 days old on October 15, 2026, whatever the lengths of the months in between.

When does someone born on February 29 have a birthday?

In leap years, on February 29. In other years it depends on who’s asking: many people celebrate on February 28, and some laws (for example in England and Wales, and in Taiwan) treat March 1 as the day the person becomes a year older. Choose either under “Leap-day birthdays”.

What about people born on the 31st?

In a month without a 31st, the month is counted as complete on its last day. Someone born on January 31 is one month old on February 28 (or 29), and one month and one day old on March 1.

Does the time zone matter?

The calculator uses calendar dates only, so daylight saving and time zones can’t shift the answer. “Today” is the date on your device. If you were born in a different time zone from where you are now, your birthday still falls on the date on your birth certificate.

How do I find my age on a particular date?

Change “Age on” to that date. This is handy for forms that ask your age on a deadline or the first day of a school year. To count days or weeks between any two dates, use the date calculator.

Is my date of birth saved or sent anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. The date appears in the page address only so you can bookmark or share the result; delete it from the address if you don’t want it in your browser history.
